Need a job fast? First, figure out which box you're in

Degree, skill, both or neither. Your box decides your next move, so be honest about it first.

Need a job fast? Before you apply anywhere, figure out which box you're in. Your box decides your next move, and most people skip this and waste months doing the wrong thing.

Answer two questions honestly

  1. Do I have a degree relevant to the jobs I want?
  2. Do I have a practical skill I can prove today, with real work I can show?

Watching tutorials is a start, not proof. If you can't show it, it doesn't count yet.

The 4 boxes

  • Box 1: Degree, no skill. Target entry-level roles linked to your degree, and add one practical skill alongside.
  • Box 2: Skill, no degree. Don't hide behind the missing degree. Build a portfolio, show proof, approach companies directly.
  • Box 3: Both. Strongest position. Target roles that use both.
  • Box 4: Neither yet. Skill first, then the job. Pick a skill the market already pays for.
Employers don't hire degrees. They hire people who solve a problem.

Then add your money situation

Write your box at the top of a notebook, and next to it: "I need income this month", "in 3 months" or "in 6 months".

If it's this month, take a stable, respectable job first: sales, customer support, operations, anything that pays. That's smart, not failure. Then run the plan in your 2 hours a day and move up once you can prove a stronger skill.
